Kiswend's Easy Refreshing Ginger Juice (Recipe)

If you've read our Maninka Sista's introduction to African Cuisine, you probably know by now that in the African diet, spicy is to food what salty is to sea water.

"In the world of spicy, you cannot go without ginger.

Ginger is a condiment that is widely used in African cooking, particularly for seasoning anything from stews to meats. Besides its sweet flavor and spicy taste, ginger is known to decrease inflammation, reduce nausea and boost the immune system.

Have you heard of spicy water?

Africans love spicy so much they have even come up with spicy drinks.

Whether you live in a place where four seasons rhythm the year, or a place with a rainy and dry season, chances are you are familiar with what a hot day feels like.

If you are living through one of those oven-like heat waves and are looking for that refreshing, thirst quenching, summer drink that will boost your energy and wake up your taste buds, you have come to the right place!

To Recap -What we’re using in this recipe (for 20 servings):

  • 2 lbs of fresh ginger

  • Your favorite tropical juice

  • 3 stems of mint leaves

Enjoy this alcohol free drink or turn it into a cocktail and serve to your guests at your next house party (just add a couple of ounces of your favorite liquor)! – I have to warn you that if you do add alcohol it doesn’t count for staying hydrated ;-)

4. Usually 4-parts of tropical lemonade to 1-part of pure ginger juice does the trick for most palates. Depending on your taste, you may add more ginger juice if you like it hot, or less if your taste buds are as delicate as a French lace.
