“I was born in Ethiopia and lived there until I was 11, then moved to Ottawa (Canada).
What I remember most are the family gatherings and communal living. Everyone makes an effort to visit family and friends. I remember spending a lot of time with my cousins growing up.
What makes Ethiopia a special place is its rich culture, food and history. The 13 months of sunshine also make it a special place: in the Ethiopian calendar there are 12 months with 30 days and the last month has 5 to 6 days (depending on a leap year).
A few of my greatest achievements are:
Growing up to be an independent and confident woman;
Building a socially responsible line of clutches (bags) called Me.Tu Style, which supports charities here in Ottawa and in Ethiopia;
Training and competitively competing as a tennis player in my teenage years. I have won many championships and tournaments.

On her brand.
I was looking for a clutch; something unique and different. I couldn’t find what I was looking for in large department stores so I started sketching my ideas. I went to Ethiopia and made some samples. I spoke to people about it, showed them samples, and there were so much interest - that’s how the brand started!
In the process I thought I could start a socially responsible brand, so 10% of the proceeds go to an orphanage in Ethiopia. The clutches are now made locally by a charitable organization, Ecoequitable, which provides a bridge to social and economic integration for people in need, especially for immigrant women."
For those who are interested in checking out her brand, visit MeTuStyle.ca for a great selection of clutches for any occasion!
